Amaterasu is the goddess of the sun and the heavens in Japanese mythology and Shinto religion. The Myth of the Cave: Her brother, Susanoo, caused havoc and enraged her. Amaterasu hid inside a dark cave. The world lost its light and was plunged into darkness. The other gods held a celebration with dancing outside the cave. The goddess peeked out of curiosity, and the gods persuaded her to return, bringing light back to the world.
