Blooming Vortex – Hand-Cranked Kinetic Sculpture

Blooming Vortex is a 3D-printable desk sculpture featuring two overlapping spiral discs that rotate in opposite directions. Their changing overlap creates a flowing optical illusion that appears to bloom, close and move toward the centre. I spent three days working on this project and assembling the printed version shown in the photos.
