Staring straight out, a bison fills the right side of a rounded plaque with its broad head, curved horns and a heavy mane that drapes down to its knees. The rest of the body trails off to the left in softer, shallower relief. Tufts of prairie grass and a few taller stalks grow along the bottom, and the plaque's upper edge bulges in an uneven curve.
