Corno Grande, the "Great Horn", is the highest peak of the Apennines and of mainland Italy. Rising to 2,912m in the Gran Sasso d'Italia massif of Abruzzo, it guards the Calderone glacier — the southernmost glacier in Europe. The massif sits inside the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park, a stronghold of the rare Apennine chamois.
