Officially Extinct in 1852. The Great Auk was a large flightless bird that was once found in the North Atlantic Ocean, from the coasts of Canada to Europe. Great auks were excellent swimmers and divers, with their wings being modified into flippers for underwater propulsion. They primarily fed on fish, squid, and crustaceans, and lived in large colonies on rocky islands. Unfortunately, the great auk was hunted extensively for its meat, eggs, and feathers, as well as for use in museum collection…
