Guy Gardner

The character was created by John Broome and Gil Kane. He first appeared in the Green Lantern comic book (Volume 2, No. 59) in March 1968. Interestingly, the character was named after NASA astronaut Guy Gardner — he was a fan of comics. However, the character’s personality was significantly changed in the 1980s: the authors (Kate Giffen and Steve Englehart) turned him into an aggressively chauvinistic parody of the “energetic American citizen,” and this archetype stuck.
