The H39 was a design of Battleship for the Kriegsmarine to succeed the Bismarck class. The design was the first of a series of designs. The H39 were essentially larger Bismarck class battleships armed with 16 inch (406mm) guns instead of the earlier 15 inch. The first two H39 class ships were laid down but were cancelled.
