Helicoprion bessonowi is an extinct species of shark that lived during the Permian period, approximately 290 million years ago. It is known for its unique spiral-shaped tooth whorl, which is often found as a fossilized impression. The tooth whorl was originally thought to be a circular saw-like structure located at the front of the animal's mouth, but it is now believed to have been located at the back of the jaw, similar to a modern shark's teeth.
