Turn the knurled crank and watch the red tracer pin run along a perfectly straight stretch of its groove, then loop back. This is Hoeken's linkage (Karl Hoeken, 1926), one of the classic answers to the old engineering puzzle of turning rotation into straight-line motion with nothing but rigid bars and pins.
