Old stainless steel tongs used for salad or hot food, often included silicone rubber grips attached to the steel handles. This material deteriorates due to time, cleaners, heat and oils from handling and cooking. This leads to sticky gummy grips and parts that need to be stripped off or worse, perfectly good functioning tongs thrown out.
