DESCRIPTION Sherman III early DV Hull, M3 bogies style The shortage of the excellent Continental aircraft engine, used on the M4 and M4A1 Shermans, forced the Americans to install other engines in the Sherman hulls. The M4A2 version (the English Sherman III) received a GM diesel engine. The M4A2 version of the Sherman used a welded hull almost identical to the M4A1, but with a pair of ventilated armored grilles on the rear hull deck.
