A square stable or barn lantern with a four-pane window on every side, each divided by a cross-shaped glazing bar, chunky corner posts with small caps, a sloped pyramidal roof topped by a round vent, a bail handle and a stepped square plinth. Lanterns like this hung in stables, barns and farmyards for generations, giving safe, enclosed light for evening work with animals and feed.
