The Portland Class were a pair of heavy cruisers built for the United States Navy in 1930. USS Portland served in many engagements of the war where in spite of being severely damaged she survived the war. USS Indianapolis served as a fleet flagship for much of the war. In July 19455 she transported components for the Nuclear Weapons from the united states and was torpedoed by I-58 on the return from this mission.
